The Northern Neck and MIddle Peninsula areas are also known as The Rivah. It consists of Northumberland, Lancaster, Richmond, Westmoreland, Essex, King & Queen, King William, Middlesex County, Gloucester and Matthews Counties.
Now, slow down, relax because now you have entered "River Time!" According to Doug Nabhan of the Rivah Visitor's Guide, "the term "River Time" is an expression that is used to reflect an attitude, a way of life, for the natives of the Northern Neck and Middle Peninsula. "River Time" is what people say when they are trying to explain when something should have been done but is not yet completed."
Here are a few tips to survive being a weekender and having a place or just visiting:
No amount of money will make folks move faster or longer. Save your breath no amount of pleading or threatening will get someone to speed up or work overtime. Time is not of the essence. There are very few fast food restraunts in the area, why does any one want food fast.
Just to give you a sense of traffic here, well, there is only two traffic lights in all of Northumberland County. You might experience delays due to tractors on the road, local folks do drive at excessive rates of speed and good chance you will get passed up. Crime is low, the main problem is cars don't drive good drunk.
There are great local festivals. And if you love seafood, this is the place! Crab is a mainstay in one's diet. There are numerous ma and pa restraunts and extremely reasonable prices.
The best thing here are the folks! They are good people!
